Special Awards

NL Science Fairs is proudly supported by many departments, societies, groups and people. We are thankful for their support of Newfoundland and Labrador young scientists.

These awards are judged by ‘Special Awards Judges’ and do not follow the same judging rubric as medal judging. The criteria and selection is based on each special award. Awards vary from year to year.

ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY OF CANADA JOSEPH ENGLISH MEMORIAL AWARD

Best project in astronomy.

The Science and Technology Fair Marine Institute Award

Undergraduate entrance award of $1000 (renewable in 2nd Semester) Criterion: Most innovative marine and/or fisheries related project in the senior division

WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (WISE) AWARD

Best project by a female student in a junior, intermediate and senior category.

COLLEGE OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY AWARD

Best intermediate or senior project demonstrating technology innovation.

MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN BIOSCIENCES AWARD

Best biochemistry, nutrition or food science projects in junior, intermediate and senior categories.

COLLEGE OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC HEALTH SCIENCES AWARD

Best senior project demonstrating health sciences related innovation.

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR INSTITUTE OF AGROLOGISTS KEN PROUDFOOT MEMORIAL AWARD

Best agricultural project in a junior division.

MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY AWARD

Best life sciences project in a junior, intermediate and senior category.

MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF OCEAN SCIENCES AWARD

Two best projects related to ocean sciences.
